Simulations

Various engineering tools are needed to develop industry leading products. We’ve developed an example tool (shown below) – an impedance trace calculator for co-planar waveguides used in wireless circuit design. We use this simulation technique (among others) to bring commercial products to fruition. If you have questions on how you can use this, feel free to ask us a question on the Contact Us page.

A common design problem is to determine the optimal circuit trace width. This parameter is critical because a poorly designed system will reflect the energy that would otherwise be used to wirelessly broadcast information, thereby degrading the effective operating distance.

Typical design steps include matching the system impedance to 50 Ω. By default, we will assume an FR4 substrate that has a relative dielectric constant of 4.6; though, you may experiment with different values.
